When his dog dies, the man goes to the parish priest and asks, "Could you conduct a funeral service for the poor creature?"
"We can't have services for an animal in the church," explains the preacher. "But there's a new denomination down the road. Maybe they'll do something for him."
"Thanks," says the man. "Do you think $10,000 is enough to donate for the service?"
The priest replies, "Why didn't you tell me the dog was not an atheist?"
어떤 한 남자가 기르던 개가 죽자 목사를 찾아가 물었다. "이 가엾은 것을 위해 장례식을 치러주실 수 없나요?"
목사는 "교회에서 짐승을 위해 장례를 치를 수는 없습니다"라면서도 "하지만 이 길로 내려가다 보면 새로운 교파의 교회가 있는데 어쩌면 거기서 뭔가를 해줄 수 있지 않을까 싶네요"라고 설명했다.
"고맙습니다." 남자가 말했다. "장례를 치러주는 대가로 헌금 1만달러면 충분할까요?"
그러자 목사가 답했다. "그 개가 신자라는 말씀을 왜 진작에 하지 않으셨어요?"
