A New York schoolteacher asked her class to write an essay about the police. George turned in his paper with only three words on it : “Police are bastards.” The teacher was shocked at the boy’s attitude and she arranged for the class to visit the local precinct station and see police at work. The cops showed the children all the station, drove them around in squad cars, let them talk to each other over the radios, and wound up day giving them soft drinks. Next day the teacher asked the class to write anther essay about the police force. This time George wrote : “Police are cunning bastards.” 뉴욕의 한 초등학교 선생님이 아이들에게 경찰에 관해 글을 쓰게 했다. 조지가 내놓은 것은 “경찰은 나쁜 사람”이라는 세 단어였다. 조지의 태도에 질겁한 그 선생님은 지역 경찰서로 아이들을 데리고 가서 경찰 실무를 견학시키기로 했다. 경찰들은 아이들에게 경찰서 안을 두루 구경 시키고 순찰차에 태워서 데리고 다니기도 하고 무전기를 통해 서로 이야기를 나누게도 해준 후 음료수를 대접하는 것으로 그날 행사를 마쳤다. 이튿날 선생님은 다시 경찰에 관한 글짓기를 시켰다. 조지의 이번 글은 “경찰은 간사하고 나쁜 사람들”이었다.
